The derby that Matthew “Stymie” Beard Jr. wore in the wonderful Our Gang comedies he made was given to him by Stan Laurel. Of course the Laurel & Hardy comedies as well as all the Little Rascals short subjects were shot at Hal Roach Studios. Mr. Beard was still wearing derby hats for his appearances with Redd Foxx on his hit TV series Sanford & Son.
