The literary creation of Tarzan

The definitive Tarzan was, of course, Johnny Weissmuller. In the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, the town of Tarzana is named for the literary creation — Tarzan — of Edgar Rice Burroughs, who lived there. Burroughs (1875-1950) wrote his first Tarzan story in 1912.
