Tiny Tim’s Falsetto Voice

Singer, ukulele player, and musical archivist Tiny Tim often appeared on THE TONIGHT SHOW where he was interviewed in 1968 and talked about discovering his rare ability to sing in an upper register. “I was listening to the radio,” he said, “and singing along. As I was singing I said, ‘Gee, it’s strange, I can go up high as well.'” The following year, he happened to be listening to Rudy Vallee, who could also sing in a falsetto. Tiny Tim (he was actually 6’1″) stated that he “had something of a revelation — I never knew that I had another top register.” That day was, he said, like a religious experience for him.
