Born on April 9, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois, Hugh Hefner is an American men’s lifestyle magazine publisher and businessman, known for creating the men’s adult entertainment magazine Playboy. From the first issue featuring Marilyn Monroe in December 1953, Playboy expanded into a multimillion-dollar enterprise. By the 1970s, Hefner set himself up at the Playboy Mansion West in Holmby Hills, California, remaining editor-in-chief of the magazine he founded. In more recent years, he starred in the reality TV series The Girls Next Door.
