In 1921, Bessie Coleman became the first African-American woman and first Native American to earn an aviation pilot’s license and the first African-American person and first Native American to earn an international aviation license from the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale. This year we celebrate 100 years of the runway that Bessie paved which inspired early pilots and the African-American and Native-American communities.
