Oscar Brown, Jr was an American singer, songwriter, playwright, poet, civil rights activist, and actor. He ran unsuccessfully for office in both the Illinois state legislature and the U.S. Congress. Brown wrote numerous songs (only 125 have been published), 12 albums, and more than a dozen musical plays.

Oscar Brown Jr. was an actor, singer, songwriter, poet, playwright, and activist whose work blended the Arts with social consciousness. As the pioneer of the term and practice of “edutainment,” Oscar’s voice elevated culture, challenged norms and inspired generations, beginning in the 1960’s.
While many of his works have been performed around the world, the vast majority were never published during his lifetime. As we honor the 100th anniversary of his birth, we illuminate an extraordinary legacy that continues to inform and inspire across generations.
