Born in 1921 on a farm near Denison, Iowa, Donna Reed (born Donna Belle Mullenger) rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most enduring icons of the Golden Age of Hollywood. Discovered at Los Angeles City College, she signed with MGM in 1941, launching a career that spanned over 40 years and 40 films. Best known for her definitive role as Mary Hatch Bailey in the holiday classic It’s a Wonderful Life and her Academy Award-winning performance in From Here to Eternity, Reed’s versatility allowed her to seamlessly transition into a television pioneer. As the star and uncredited producer of The Donna Reed Show, she solidified her legacy as a symbol of integrity and warmth, while her work as a co-founder of Another Mother for Peace reflected her lifelong commitment to social activism.
