Walter "Rabbit" Maranville was a legendary player with an irresistible personality. He won the hearts of fans all over the country throughout his career, including one young girl who gave him his nickname.
At 5’5” tall and weighing in at 155 pounds, Walter “Rabbit” Maranville had to overcome a lot just to play baseball.

But play baseball is what he did. For 23 successful seasons, Maranville tore up the diamond with his amazing speed and magical glovework. In 1914, he was the cornerstone of the “Miracle Braves” team that was in last place on July 4th, and stormed their way to the World Series title.

Like a long line of players in that era, the “Rabbit” was as much known for his off-the-field antics as he was for his diamond prowess. He was once seen diving out of his hotel window into a shallow pool below.
In 1954, Maranville was honored with his election to baseball’s Hall of Fame.
